Clouds
blacken my sun
drench my land
hail me home
where ships float on skies
my old eye
remembers
swarthy Spanish sailors
swimming salted shores
riding the waves
as never before
kissing the earth
with hooves of steel
from glistening steeds
to men on their backs
these horses did kneel
my mothers, fathers
brothers, sisters
lived and died
side by side
in victory or defeat
swords clashed
glinted in the sun
now just reflections
of whirling blades
on metal birds of prey
hunting me down
I run, sweat, bleed
but will not hide
for I am Cloud
born wild and proud
know me now
or bury me
with those before me
who carried your seed
helped birth your nation
one day I will fly
through azure skies
sailing on wind
while salted rain
on your wounds will pour
my heart will sink
but my spirit shall live
and America will be less
for wanting more
than I can give.
