Poetry In E-Motion Equine Poetry
Body, Mind, and Soul
An Ode to Sage
by Eleanor Van Natta
All I want from you
is forgiveness
for what I did and didn’t know -
what you needed, how to feed you
body, mind, and soul;
a soul that is equine
is hard to define
I mistakenly thought
I could claim it as mine;
I had you in me
and did not see it
now I understand
you soothe my spirit;
I meant it all well
but a puzzle you have been
now my eyes are open
to all I have not seen;
your spirit runs freely
but your body is trapped
my arms around you
tightly wrapped;
like the four wood walls
and four fenced sides
your home kept changing
like the ocean tides;
I asked, asked, asked
you gave, gave, gave
yet never would I think
to
call you slave;
you have been patient
you have been true
and now forgiveness
is all I want from you
Reins
He was my joy -
steady unbending foot of my compass
and grass was ever greener where he
grazed;
amazed was I
at the simple nature of his beauty and
spirit, poetry in e-motion,
no finer ship on the ocean
as he galloped across rolling hills;
now he gallops across red plains
of my heart
forever with me, forever in me
for nothing can ever sever
the reins that hold me to him
and steer my mourning
back to joy.
